In God’s creation nothing is wasted: autumn leaves become spring’s fertile mulch; every part of creation has a fruitful role to play. In the UK we each throw away an average ½ tonne per year, at least 60% of which could be recycled. Tackling waste is not just a technical exercise, but a spiritual discipline. Every bin-bag we thoughtlessly discard is an offering to the idols of consumerism. By remembering the 24:1 commitment – “The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it” (Psalm 24.1) - then reducing waste can be an act of worship.
