Join a local conservation group and get involved. The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers is a useful one to look at, with groups all over the country.

Find out more about your local area. Many places have a local Natural History Society, which is a great way to learn about the ecology of where you live, and which other inhabitants you share your area with.

Join your local Residents’ or Community Association. Here you will both find out the issues that affect you directly and have an opportunity to do something about them.
